The term functional exercise refers to movements that mimic everyday activities. That is, an exercise that trains your muscles to work together and prepares them for the tasks we do each day. Functional exercises simulate common movements you might do at home, at work or in sports. Squats for example, are a similar movement to lowering your bottom onto a stool to sit down.
While using various muscles in the upper and lower body at the same time, functional exercises also emphasise core stability.
